This fun-filled three hour workshop is intended to give teachers, paras, and other school professionals a basic understanding of selective mutism. It is also intended to empower teachers in their ability to foster inclusivity, participation, and communication in the school setting.
Who Should Attend?
classroom teachers, special educators, paras, case managers, school administrators, other related school personnel.
As a result of attending, participants will be able to:
Describe SM in your their words
List at least two ways to support communication in the classroom
Explain at least one way to build awareness and understanding about SM in the classroom
List the key components of a "safety plan"
SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY
8:30 – 9:30 – A brief overview of SM
9:30 - 10:30 – Strategies for fostering inclusivity, participation, and communication in the classroom
10:30 – 10:45 – Safety plans
10:45-11:00 – Open forum for questions
